PORCELAIN VENEERS

What are porcelain dental veneers?

Porcelain dental veneers are thin porcelain shells (0.5mm) that are used to cover the front of teeth. They are matched to the colour of your existing teeth, and individually crafted to the shape of your tooth, giving a natural, discreet appearance. As they are very durable, and do not stain, they are popular solution with patients seeking to restore or enhance their smile.

Dental veneers are used to correct or restore the following conditions:

  • Masking severely stained or discolored teeth
  • VeneersClosing Diastemas – spaces between your teeth.
  • Straightening misaligned teeth
  • Chipped or worn teeth
  • Slight tooth crowding
  • Teeth that are too large or too small
  • Improving the appearance of damaged or broken teeth due to decay or trauma

How are dental veneers fitted?

Fitting dental veneers normally requires three visits. During the first visit, our doctor will do a thorough examination and diagnosis of your overall oral health, and discuss your expectations of the outcome of the veneers with you to achieve the optimal results.

Veneer shade selectAt your second visit, our doctors will create an impression (mold) and record the colour shades of your teeth. This information is sent to the the Dental Laboratory in order to custom make your dental veneers to the exact shape and colour required. Your teeth are prepared by lightly buffing the front surface of the teeth to allow for the thickness of veneers. Temporary dental veneers are then fitted.

On your third visit the temporary veneers are removed and your custom made veneers are carefully bonded onto the tooth using special bonding cements.

Is it painful?

Quite often it is not necessary to administer any anesthetic to fit dental veneers, however in some cases our doctors might choose to administer a local anesthetic to ensure that the entire process is pain free.

Dental Veneers are an excellent option for patients looking for a dental treatment that will dramatically improve their teeth, giving them a beautiful, natural looking smile.

Keeping your Veneers white

Veneers can last a long time but a lot depends on how you take care of them. You must maintain good oral hygiene brushing and floss twice a day to prevent the edge near to the gum that is not covered by the veneer from staining.

Habits that damaged your natural teeth, like biting pens and pencils, opening bottle tops with your teeth and biting your nails will also damage your veneers.

To reduce staining from consuming dark coloured beverages, please drink with a straw. We also recommend Active Maintenance Scaling and Polishingvisits with our doctors every 6 months.
